Opening Celebration Budget

How much is the expected cost and who is helping pay for it?

The estimated cost of the opening is: $260,000

Public Safety
$ 75,000
Money for uniformed officers and emergency support from the Tacoma Police Department and the Washington State Patrol. Past planning performed by a paid event security consultant. This cost also includes portable restrooms, barricades, and equipment including radio rental. WSDOT gratefully acknowledges Pierce County, City of Gig Harbor Police Department and City of Tacoma Public Works for their generosity and support for their in-kind service donations.

A special insurance policy is being purchased to guard against unexpected liability to the state.

Transportation and Access

Buses from Pierce Transit, parking lot costs, and credentials for parking lot attendants and drivers.

Stages, ribbons and scissors, tents for shade, sound system, rental trucks, t-shirts for volunteers.

Promotional Materials

Souvenir insert for The News Tribune, self-guided tour, and site programs. The News Tribune is contributing $30,000 towards the total amount of this insert.

Electrical support, custodial services, trailer, permits, etc.

Event planning services from on-call event planning consultant. Expended funds in 2006.

This does not include WSDOT volunteers.  The costs of The News Tribune program/insert are being defrayed in part by the paper and its advertisers.
