Cable Spinning
In mid-July, bridge builders joined two 5/8-inch cables and, by doing so, connected
the Gig Harbor anchorage to the Gig Harbor tower. Pulling the first steel wire
to the tower represents the first time that land meets water on this project.
Now that the first wire has been placed, progressively stronger wires will be
pulled from the anchorages to the towers. In the months ahead, suspension crews
will spin mile after mile of steel wire until a pair of 21½-inch main cables
