Cable Spinning
In order for suspender (vertical) cables to be hung from the main cable - that
ultimately supports the weight of the deck - crews attach permanent steel castings,
called cable bands, about every 40 feet along the 20.5-inch diameter "steel
rope." The center band (seen here) is the largest and is 14 feet in length.
