West Tower:This view shows the west span and tower on the Gig Harbor side of the Narrows. The towers of the new bridge rise 510 feet and the suspended roadway about 200 feet above Puget Sound. The concrete tower legs top out at 504 feet; the final six feet of each tower comprise the cable saddle, a steel casting that cradles the cable and transfers the load (weight) from the cables to the tower. Most of the bridge's weight - and vehicles crossing - are suspended from the cables. Crews finished the towers in July 2005 and all deck sections were lifted into place by January 2007.
